In addition to numerous Yankee/redneck jokes, Witherspoon's dad is involved in the regular reenactment of a Civil War battle. Tennant also seems to be a fan of love's ability to prevail in the face of these conflicts. His film 'Ever After' has a similar theme – it deals with the struggle between nobility and commoner during medieval times.

The "extras" has several deleted scenes, and also includes the original ending that was scrapped after comments from test screenings. They had to re-shoot and I think the eventual ending is very appropriate. The first and last scenes complement each other very well. Many Berry College students played extras as attendees in the wedding scene.
Where Was Sweet Home Alabama Filmed?
To direct cast and crew to the site, yellow signs saying "SWA" with arrows pointing out the correct route were put up. Some Berry College students stole these signs as souvenirs. When I saw "Sweet Home Alabama" I wondered if the lightning and sand really could create something so ornate and beautiful. I love how some of these pieces are formed, one that looks like "Darwin" and one that looks like a "Hula Dancer"... There is something very special about wind chimes created by pieces of "fossilized lightning." Something purely natural and at the same time mysterious. Because of this act, which was considered to be impetuous, the God of the Sea, Neptune, "sentenced" her to a life way out in the ocean, never to come near the Schooner or her beloved Captain again.

The story is trite and the characters are inherently uninteresting, but he could have at least livened things up a bit. Sweet Home Alabama is about a girl, Melanie, she is about to marry the mayor of New York city's son. But she has a bit of a bumpy past in the south where her family and old friends are, she's still married to Jake, her high school sweetheart. Without trying to bring up her embarrassing past to her fiancée, she has to get things done and settled with everyone, including her husband. But she slowly discovers how much she missed her true home and how much of a wonderful guy that Jake is. The beautiful glass sculptors you see in the movie sweet home Alabama are quite easy to create if you understand the science behind it.
Cast
I’m from Greenville, AL. The water tower scene with the courthouse in the background features a courthouse that is almost identical to the one in the real Greenville, AL. I grew up alongside Pigeon Creek. The over 1,000-acre park was used for concerts and other events following the Olympics. It continues to be open to the public for horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, geocaching, and other activities.
Reese Witherspoon terrific heartfelt performance makes this movie work. I originally had my doubts about seeing this one but I bought the DVD and I highly enjoyed the movie. Reese Witherspoon has good chemistry with both Patrick Dempsey and Josh Lucas. The film although predictable is full of funny moments and a lot of heart. The interstate mentioned should be I-65 as it runs closest to Greenville. Had they actually filmed the movie entirely in Alabama and not Georgia the production could have possibly avoided a number of flaws and errors.
Follow Melanie's escapades through Georgia
As Melanie, however, she comes across as too self-absorbed to be likable, and there's a scene in which she's had a bit too much to drink that, as they say, shows her (Melanie's) true colors. She has too much of an edge to evoke any empathy, and overall, her performance isn't that convincing. She gets the `hard' side of Melanie right, but when she goes for `soft' it translates to pretentious and lacks the realism that would make it believable.

On a beach in the fictional town of Pigeon Creek, Alabama, 10-year-olds Jake Perry and Melanie Smooter inspect the result of lightning striking sand. Who can forget Patrick Dempsey’s character going down on one knee to propose to Melanie in a Tiffany’s? This was shot at the legendary store in the Big Apple, and interestingly, it was the first time that the brand allowed filming to take place on premises since the shoot of ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ .
The original 'Sweet Home Alabama' ending was reshot because test audiences thought Reese Witherspoon's character died
Reese Witherspoon, Patrick Dempsey, Candace Bergen and Josh Lucas star in the film, which celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2017. Melanie goes to the Carmichael plantation and apologizes to Bobby Ray, whose family lives there. She is cornered there by Kate's assistant, sent to gather information on Melanie's background. Bobby Ray backs up her pretense that she is a relative and the family mansion is her childhood home. Melanie reconciles with her friends and learns that after she split with Jake, he had followed her to New York to win her back.
I mean, how many romantic comedies aren't predictable? I especially liked her parents, who really felt as if they were actually the characters they portrayed. Josh Lucas, who impressed in 'A Beautiful Mind' is a good match for Reese's character, and he helps play down the sugar-sweetness with a grittier performance than is usual in such films. This isn't great, but definitely watchable, with Reese Witherspoon now confirmed as the biggest threat to Julia Roberts' throne as chief actress in Hollywood.
After that, Melanie runs to find her first, true love, they kiss under the rain and live happily ever after. The supporting cast includes Fred Ward , Mary Kay Place , Jean Smart , Ethan Embry and Melanie Lynskey . With a different cast, director and screenplay, `Sweet Home Alabama' may have had a chance; but this bunch checked any pizzazz and credibility at the door on the way in, and the result is a film that is flat and tedious. This one seemingly had promise, but the filmmakers simply failed to deliver. And what in the world is going on with Candice Bergen? Is she destined to play a sarcastic and jaded or disturbed (Kathy Morningside, `Miss Congeniality') version of Murphy Brown for the rest of her career?

The 2002 film Sweet Home Alabama tells of a fashion designer in New York City who must return to her small hometown to get a divorce from her high school boyfriend. Witherspoon is a highly successful and up and coming close designer in New York and she's just gotten rather publicly engaged to Patrick Dempsey whose character is no doubt based on JFK, Jr. It's a dream come true, but there's one small hitch in the design. Seems like she never quite got around to divorcing her good old boy husband from her hometown. Melanie Carmichael , seven years removed from her roots in Alabama has achieved success in the Big Apple.
In order for a pure clear glass sculpture you need 100 percent pure sand. Here in Sarasota on Siesta Key Florida we have 100 percent pure fine quarts CRystal sand.having this type of sand creates pure glass when heated at a certain temperature. On top of this the sand cannot be wet so in order for the strike to work it must be dug down and then filled in with dry sand around the lightning rod if you're lucky enough to have a strike happened. The lightning rod before rain sets you will get the exact same thing you seen in the movie I've seen it myself they have since outlawed it on Siesta Key for safety reasons.

He tells everyone, "Melanie Carmichael is dead." Everyone is in shock. Then he says, "Long live Felony Melanie," which is the nickname from her youth. Melanie, who was just playing dead, gives him a kiss. They then go and dance as the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Sweet Home Alabama" plays and the credits start.
Sweet Home Alabama (film)
Josh Lucas makes a fabulous performance as Jake, her estranged high school Hubby who's never got her out of his mind. If you are in the mood for a good old fashioned romance with some great country thrown in then this is the one for you, i've lost count how many times i have seen this now and i'll never tire of it. Even if this isn't your kind of film i challenge you to watch it and not feel good, practically impossible. Delightful characters throughout and constantly entertaining!
She is such a good actress that you do begin to wonder what she is doing in a fluffy romantic comedy like this, especially as it is definitely not as good as 'Legally Blonde'. But I'm glad she is in it, because it is just like an old-fashioned studio 'vehicle', tailored to suit her upcoming stardom. Once you adjust to the slowish pace, the movie is worth staying with, in spite of its predictability.
